Pūrākaunui School
Place to Belong. A Place to Thrive.
Pūrākaunui School sits in one of the most beautiful settings you could imagine for a school — surrounded by farmland and native bush, with sweeping views across the Pacific Ocean. Our sunny, north-facing grounds are more than just a backdrop; they are part of how we learn every day.
A Space That Inspires
Step inside and you'll find two warm, inviting classrooms complete with log burners, and a purpose-built library stocked to spark curiosity and a love of reading. Step outside and the learning continues — across a tennis court, soccer field, playground, large sandpit, and forest pods, right through to our very own pizza oven. Our expansive grounds are designed for exploration, discovery, and the kind of hands-on learning that children remember for life.
Learning That Puts Your Child First
At the heart of everything we do is a genuine belief in every child's potential. Our strengths-based, child-centred approach means we see each learner as an individual — their identity, culture, and unique way of thinking are celebrated, not just accommodated. We design personalised learning programmes that include accelerated pathways in mathematics and literacy, and we are proudly inclusive of neurodiverse learners, always going the extra mile to ensure every tamaiti can succeed.
Rooted in Te Ao Māori
Te reo Māori and tikanga are not extras here — they are woven naturally through our daily learning and life as a school. This grounding in Te Ao Māori helps our students develop a deep sense of belonging, identity, and connection to this special place we call home.
A True School Whānau (family)
Our children aged 5 to 12 learn and play together, building the kinds of tuakana-teina relationships that nurture leadership, kindness, and collaboration across all ages. Our highly qualified teachers are joined by volunteer educators from within our community, bringing real-world knowledge and strengthening the bonds between school and whānau.
The communities of Long Beach, Pūrākaunui, and Osborne are the heartbeat of our school — and together, we are proud to be something truly special.
Come and see us. We'd love to show you around.
